The greatest thing man can possibly do is to worship Allah and obey His commands. In fact, doing so will entitle him to a happy life and eternal bliss in the hereafter. Islam is easy in all its laws, is all good and leads to all good.

This worship, which covers all aspects of life, must be performed based on sound knowledge to be fully rewarded and to avoid engaging in wrong practices. Allah (swt) says, “… So let him who hopes to meet his Lord do good deeds and not associate anyone in the worship of his Lord.” (Soorat Al-Kahf, 18:110) Good deeds are those that are done in accordance with the manner prescribed by Allah (swt) in the Qur’an and in accordance with the Prophet’s practice (Sunnah). Indeed, there is a great deal of good in following in his footsteps.

Therefore, A Muslim is required to learn about the rulings of his religion, for doing so is one of Allah’s greatest blessings. The Prophet (s) once stated, “When Allah wishes to bestow His favour on someone, He makes him understand the religion.”

We have taken great care to present all important Islamic issues relating to beliefs, practices and manners in a straightforward style and with clearly defined procedures and steps. We have also incorporated a number of photographs and illustrations that are bound to increase awareness and help reflect on the meanings, so that this book will serve as an interesting reference and educational guide for Muslims regardless of their walks of life.

The present book draws inspiration from the Qur’anic method in mentioning the provisions of Islamic law. It not only focuses on what should be done or avoided, but also mentions the spirit of acts of worship, as well as their objectives and positive effects. It also answers such important questions as ‘why?’, ‘how?’ and ‘what should I do if circumstances change?’ in order to learn the religion, especially in the present age that is characterised by rapid change and developments in every sphere.

We pray to Almighty Allah to make our intentions sincere for Him alone, to guide our steps and to guide us to the best of deeds and the best of manners, for none can guide to the best of them but Him. We also pray to Him to protect us from bad deeds and bad manners, for none can protect from them except Him.

May Allah shower His choicest peace and blessings upon His Messenger whom He commanded to recite the following prayer, “My lord, increase my knowledge.”
